Sophie is trying to help Claire (older woman) & Claire's grandson Charlie find her long lost love, Lorenzo. As they drive away from a beautiful estate, Charlie says to his grandmother, (paraphrasing) 'too bad this wasn't the right Lorenzo, if you'd been with him you could have avoided all the messy bits of life.' Claire replies to him,
"Life is the messy bits."

-Letters to Juliet
This was said in a 'I wouldn't miss the messy bits of life for anything' kind of way. I guess I liked it because I think so often we think of the 'messy bits of life' as bad things or things we wish would go away. For some reason in the midst of this sappy little love story, that line rang true to me. I guess we have to accept truth no matter how it comes.
Here are a few other thoughts on life that I like:
Dost thou love life?
Then do not squander time,
for that is the stuff life is made of.
-Benjamin Franklin
After the game,
the king and the pawn go into the same box
-Italian Proverb
Govern the life and thoughts
as if the whole world
were to see the one,
and read the other
